Detailed introduction

Xinyang is a prefecture-level city in southern Henan Province, covering 18,819 km² with a permanent population of about 6 million. Classified as a fifth-tier city, it nevertheless has a megacity-scale population. Located at the northern foot of the Dabie Mountains and the upper Huaihe River, Xinyang blends the ruggedness of the north with the elegance of the south, earning it the nickname 'North of the South.' Its history dates back to the Western Zhou dynasty, serving as a crossroads of Central Plains and Chu cultures, with historical sites like Chengyangcheng Ruins and Lingshan Temple. Economically, Xinyang is agricultural, with tea cultivation as a highlight—Xinyang Maojian is one of China's top ten famous teas, exported worldwide. In recent years, industries such as electronics and green food processing have grown. For education, Xinyang Normal University (formerly Xinyang Teachers College) is a regional key university offering diverse programs and international exchange opportunities, attracting a small number of international students. Xinyang Vocational and Technical College also provides applied majors. Living in Xinyang is affordable: the climate is mild with four distinct seasons, good air quality, and living costs much lower than in first-tier cities. The city has high green coverage, with Nanwan Lake and Jigong Mountain as popular weekend destinations. Medical facilities are adequate, including several top-tier hospitals. Locals are friendly and the city is safe, though English proficiency is limited, so basic Chinese is recommended for daily life.
