Detailed introduction

Shiyan is situated in the northwestern part of Hubei Province, along the middle and upper reaches of the Han River, deep within the Qinba Mountains, earning it the nickname 'Throat of Qinba'. Its history dates back to the Ming Dynasty, developing around the Taoist culture of Mount Wudang, and modern growth surged with the construction of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, making it a major national automotive manufacturing base, often called the 'Truck Capital of China'. The economy is centered on automobile manufacturing and parts production, supplemented by tourism driven by Mount Wudang and Danjiangkou Reservoir. In education, Shiyan hosts several universities including Hubei University of Automotive Technology, Hubei University of Medicine, and Hanjiang Normal University. Hubei University of Automotive Technology is particularly known for its automotive engineering programs, attracting international engineering students. The cost of living is low, the city pace is relaxed, and public safety is excellent. As the core water source area for the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, Shiyan boasts a superior ecological environment with high forest coverage. International students can experience authentic Hubei folkways while enjoying affordable rent and prices. Though a fifth-tier city, Shiyan has complete infrastructure—supermarkets, hospitals, and sports facilities—making it suitable for long-term study and living.
