Detailed introduction

Wuzhong is a prefecture-level city in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River and forming a core part of Ningxia's Yellow River urban belt. Covering 21,420 square kilometers with a permanent population of about 1.42 million, over 50% of residents are Hui ethnic group, making it one of the cities with the highest Hui population proportion in China. Wuzhong has a long history dating back to the Qin and Han dynasties and served as an important post station on the Silk Road during the Tang Dynasty. Today, its economy is driven by modern agriculture, energy and chemical industries, and halal food processing, earning it the titles 'Home of Chinese Goji Berries' and 'Home of Chinese Tan Sheep'. In terms of education, Wuzhong hosts Ningxia Vocational College of Nationalities and other institutions, with well-developed basic education but limited higher education options. The cost of living is low, the local people are warm-hearted, and Hui culture is deeply rooted—mosques and Hui-style architecture are common sights. For international students, Wuzhong offers a unique opportunity to explore China's ethnic minority culture and experience a slow-paced northwestern lifestyle, though they should be prepared for the dry climate, large temperature swings, and cold winters.
