Detailed introduction

Tangshan is the cradle of modern Chinese industry. The establishment of the Kaiping Mining Bureau in 1878 marked the beginning of China's modern coal industry, followed by the country's first mechanized coal mine, first standard-gauge railway, first steam locomotive, and first batch of cement. The devastating 1976 Tangshan earthquake leveled the city, but the resilient people rebuilt it from scratch, transforming it into a modern coastal city. Economically, Tangshan relies on traditional industries such as steel, equipment manufacturing, chemicals, and ceramics, while actively developing emerging sectors like new energy, new materials, and intelligent equipment. In education, the city hosts universities including North China University of Science and Technology (NCUST) and Tangshan University. NCUST is particularly strong in medicine and engineering, attracting many international students. Culturally, Tangshan is the birthplace of intangible heritage forms such as Pingju opera, shadow puppetry, and Laoting drum songs. Notable attractions include the Eastern Qing Tombs and Caofeidian Wetland. The cost of living is significantly lower than in Beijing and Tianjin, and the city's moderate pace makes it ideal for focused study. Tangshan is being built as a regional central city in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area, with continuous ecological improvements such as the South Lake Eco-city and Tangshan Flower Sea becoming new urban landmarks.
