Detailed introduction

Shangluo City is located at the southern foot of the eastern Qinling Mountains, covering an area of 19,292 km² with a permanent population of about 2.01 million. It is an important city in southeastern Shaanxi Province. With a long history dating back to the Xia and Shang dynasties, Shangluo is one of the cradles of Chinese civilization. Its name comes from the Shang Mountain and Luo River within its territory, and it is often praised as 'the most beautiful part of the Qinling Mountains.' Economically, Shangluo focuses on green industries such as eco-tourism, traditional Chinese medicine, walnuts, and chestnuts, with recent developments in new energy and biomedicine. In education, the city hosts Shangluo University and Shangluo Vocational and Technical College, serving local and regional students. Culturally, Shangluo is the hometown of renowned writer Jia Pingwa, and traditional art forms like Qinqiang opera and Shangluo Huagu (flower drum) are still vibrant. The city offers a low cost of living, a slow pace of life, and excellent air quality—ideal for international students who wish to escape big city hustle and immerse themselves in authentic Chinese culture. While its international exposure is limited and English proficiency is low, this provides a perfect environment for learning Chinese.
