Detailed introduction

Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture (Yanbian for short) is located in eastern Jilin Province, bordering Russia to the east and facing North Korea across the Tumen River to the south. It is China's only Korean autonomous prefecture, covering an area of 43,500 square kilometers with a permanent population of about 1.89 million, of which over one-third are ethnic Koreans. Yanbian has a rich history: it was part of the Balhae Kingdom in the Tang Dynasty, experienced Japanese colonial rule, returned to China in 1945, and became an autonomous prefecture in 1952. The economy relies on tourism, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and modern services, with cross-border e-commerce growing rapidly. In education, Yanbian University is a national 'Double First-Class' institution, offering specialized programs in Korean language and clinical medicine, attracting many international students. Culturally, Yanbian is known as the 'Land of Song and Dance'—ethnic Koreans are talented in singing and dancing, with unique festivals like the Korean Farmer's Day and the Senior Citizens' Day. Daily life is convenient with bilingual signage and moderate costs. Winters can drop to -30°C but indoor heating is excellent; summers are cool and pleasant. International students can immerse themselves in Korean language learning while experiencing the warmth of Northeastern hospitality and the delicacy of Korean culture.
