Detailed introduction

Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (Enshi Prefecture) is located in southwestern Hubei Province, at the northern foot of the Wuling Mountains. It borders Yichang to the east, Chongqing to the west, Hunan to the south, and Shennongjia to the north. Covering an area of 24,111 km² with a permanent population of about 3.38 million, it is the only ethnic autonomous prefecture in Hubei and one of the youngest in China. Enshi has a long history, once part of the ancient Ba State in the Spring and Autumn period, and was officially established as an autonomous prefecture in 1983. The region boasts spectacular natural scenery, including the world-renowned Enshi Grand Canyon, Tenglong Cave, and Suobuya Stone Forest, earning it the nickname 'China's Semporna' and 'World Selenium Capital'. Economically, Enshi relies on eco-tourism, selenium-rich agriculture (tea, medicinal herbs, potatoes, etc.), and clean energy. In recent years, transportation infrastructure has greatly improved, and education and healthcare levels have steadily risen. For international students, Enshi offers a low cost of living, honest local people, and excellent public safety. Universities such as Hubei Minzu University provide diverse academic programs, particularly in ethnic studies, ecology, and tourism management. The climate is subtropical monsoon, with four distinct seasons: hot and humid summers, mild winters with little snow, making it comfortable year-round. Enshi's unique charm lies in its preservation of authentic Tujia stilted houses, Baishou dance, and other traditional cultures, while embracing modern development—offering a peaceful, safe, and culturally immersive study destination.
