Rizhao is located in the southeastern part of the Shandong Peninsula, bordering the Yellow Sea to the east, Linyi to the west, Qingdao and Weifang to the north, and Lianyungang (Jiangsu) to the south. Covering 5,359 km² with a population of 2.91 million, it is classified as a large Type II city. With a history dating back to the Xia and Shang dynasties, it was once part of the ancient Ju State during the Spring and Autumn period, giving it rich cultural heritage. Economically, Rizhao is a key node of the Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone. The Rizhao Port, one of China's top ten coastal ports, handles over 400 million tons of cargo annually, driving industries like steel, energy, and grain processing. The city is also famous for Rizhao green tea, a successful example of 'introducing southern tea to the north.' In education, Rizhao hosts campuses of Qufu Normal University and Shandong Sport University, along with several vocational colleges, offering language courses and academic programs for international students. The city enjoys excellent air quality, ranking among the best in Shandong Province. The pace of life is relaxed, and the cost of living is moderate. As a UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour awardee, Rizhao emphasizes ecological protection, featuring attractions like Wanpingkou Seashore Scenic Area and Rizhao Coastal National Forest Park. International students can enjoy a safe, clean, and friendly environment while experiencing the blend of traditional Chinese culture and modern marine economy.
