Detailed introduction

Shantou is located in eastern Guangdong Province, at the southern tip of the Han River Delta, bordering the South China Sea. It was one of China's first Special Economic Zones. Historically, Shantou opened as a port in 1860, becoming a major trading hub in modern China with a rich overseas Chinese heritage, earning the nickname 'Century-old Commercial Port'. Today, Shantou serves as the economic and cultural center of eastern Guangdong, with pillar industries such as textiles, toys, and chemicals, while actively developing the marine economy and digital economy. In education, Shantou University is a key comprehensive university in Guangdong, and it jointly established the Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology with the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, offering high-quality STEM programs for international students. Additionally, there are several vocational colleges and international departments in local schools. Living in Shantou is pleasant: the climate is warm with long, humid summers and mild winters, and costs are lower than in first-tier cities. The city is well-greened, with natural attractions like Queshi Scenic Area and Nan'ao Island. Chaoshan culture is unique, with the local dialect being Teochew, and rich folk activities such as Yingge dance and dragon boat races. International students can deeply experience local Chinese culture while enjoying modern urban conveniences.
