Detailed introduction

Wenzhou is located in southeastern Zhejiang Province, bordered by the East Sea to the east and Fujian Province to the south, and is an important part of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration. With a long history, Wenzhou was known as Dong'ou in ancient times and has been a key commercial port since the Tang Dynasty. After China's reform and opening-up, it became a national model for private economy through the 'Wenzhou Model.' Economically, Wenzhou is famous for light industries such as footwear, leather, electrical appliances, and garments, and has recently been developing digital economy, smart manufacturing, and cross-border e-commerce, showcasing strong economic vitality. In education, the city hosts several universities including Wenzhou Medical University and Wenzhou University. Wenzhou Medical University enjoys international reputation in ophthalmology and clinical medicine, attracting many international students. Culturally, Wenzhou is the cradle of Ouyue culture; its dialect preserves many features of ancient Chinese. Folk arts like Ou opera and Yueqing fine-line paper-cutting are listed as intangible cultural heritage. For daily life, Wenzhou has moderate living costs, high green coverage, and scenic spots like the Oujiang River and Yandang Mountains alongside historic alleys, offering a slower pace compared to first-tier cities, ideal for international students to study and explore.
