Detailed introduction

Mudanjiang is located in southeastern Heilongjiang Province, bordering Russia to the east. It is an important border city and regional hub in Northeast China, covering an area of approximately 39,000 square kilometers with a permanent population of 2.18 million, classified as a large Type II city. The city gets its name from the Mudan River that runs through it, and boasts a long history with diverse cultural influences, including Manchu and Korean ethnic minorities. Economically, Mudanjiang relies on tourism, green food processing, forestry, and border trade. Jingpo Lake is China's largest volcanic barrier lake, while the Snow Town (Shuangfeng Forest Farm) is world-famous for its thick snow cover, attracting tourists worldwide. In education, the city hosts Mudanjiang Normal University and Mudanjiang Medical University, offering quality programs for international students. Living costs are low, with housing and daily expenses far below those of first-tier cities. The climate is temperate monsoon, with long, cold winters (as low as -30°C) and mild, humid summers. The annual average temperature is about 3.5°C. With high green coverage and good air quality, Mudanjiang is often called the 'Jiangnan of the North'. The city also preserves many Russian-style buildings and Korean folk culture, providing international students a unique cross-cultural experience.
