Detailed introduction

Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is one of China's ten Tibetan autonomous prefectures, with a rich history and profound cultural heritage. As the eastern gateway to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, it was an important passage on the ancient Silk Road and the Tang-Tibet Ancient Road. The prefecture governs Hezuo City and seven counties, with Hezuo serving as the political, economic, and cultural center. The economy relies on animal husbandry, tourism, and Tibetan medicine, with eco-tourism growing rapidly in recent years, attracting visitors worldwide. In education, Gannan has many primary and secondary schools as well as vocational schools, some offering bilingual Tibetan-Chinese instruction, providing international students opportunities to learn both Tibetan and Chinese. Culturally, Gannan is the heart of the Amdo Tibetan region, deeply influenced by Tibetan Buddhism; Labrang Monastery is one of the world's largest Tibetan Buddhist academies. Life here is slow-paced, locals are warm-hearted, and living costs are relatively low, though infrastructure is simpler than in major cities. International students can immerse themselves in Tibetan life, participate in traditional festivals like Losar and the Thangka Unveiling Festival, and enjoy stunning landscapes including grasslands, snow-capped mountains, and lakes.
