Detailed introduction

Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, abbreviated as Ganzi Prefecture, is located in western Sichuan Province, covering an area of approximately 150,000 square kilometers with a permanent population of 1.11 million, the vast majority of whom are Tibetan. Ganzi has a long history as an important passage on the ancient Tea Horse Road, where Tibetan Buddhist culture has taken root for millennia. Its economy relies mainly on tourism, animal husbandry, and specialty agriculture, with transportation and infrastructure gradually improving in recent years. In terms of education, Ganzi is home to institutions such as Sichuan Minzu College, but overall educational resources are relatively limited; study opportunities for international students are mainly concentrated in cultural studies and Tibetology. Life in the prefecture capital, Kangding (elevation ~2,600 m), offers a cool climate, moderate living costs, and a blend of Tibetan traditions and modern conveniences. International students can experience unique Tibetan festivals such as Losar (Tibetan New Year) and mountain pilgrimage ceremonies, and enjoy the simple hospitality of local people alongside breathtaking natural scenery. Ganzi is a natural classroom for studying Tibetan culture, highland ecology, and ethnic relations, making it ideal for students with a strong interest in minority cultures.
