Detailed introduction

Xiangyang, formerly known as Xiangfan, is located in the northwestern part of Hubei Province along the middle reaches of the Han River. It is a regional central city at the junction of Hubei, Henan, and Shaanxi provinces. Covering an area of 19,626 square kilometers with a permanent population of 5.28 million, it is classified as a megacity. With a history of over 2,800 years, Xiangyang is a major birthplace of Chu culture, Han culture, and Three Kingdoms culture, often called the 'First City of China.' The famous story of Liu Bei's three visits to Zhuge Liang's thatched cottage took place here. Economically, Xiangyang is the second-largest industrial city in Hubei, with pillar industries including automobiles and parts, equipment manufacturing, electronics, and new energy materials. It hosts large enterprises like Dongfeng Motor. The city is also a national modern agriculture demonstration area, rich in grains, oil crops, and tea. In education, Xiangyang has several universities such as Hubei University of Arts and Science and Xiangyang Vocational and Technical College, as well as nationally renowned high schools like Xiangyang No.4 and No.5 High Schools. The city has multiple top-tier hospitals. The climate is subtropical monsoon with four distinct seasons: hot and humid summers, mild winters with less rain. The Han River flows through the city, providing a beautiful environment with high greenery coverage. Living costs are low—rent, dining, and transportation are much cheaper than in first-tier cities. Locals are warm and hospitable, speaking a Southwestern Mandarin dialect (E'bei sub-dialect), but Mandarin is widely understood, making communication easy for international students. The city is safe with well-developed community services, ideal for focused study and daily life.
