Detailed introduction

Xining is located on the northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at an altitude of about 2,300 meters, serving as the gateway to the plateau. Historically, it was an important hub on the southern route of the ancient Silk Road and the Tang-Tibet Ancient Road, where multiple ethnic groups intermingled, creating a unique blend of Han, Tibetan, Hui, and Mongolian cultures. Economically, Xining has developed eco-economy in recent years, leveraging abundant solar and wind resources to become a national new energy base. Specialty agriculture (yak, highland barley, goji berries) and tourism are also pillar industries. In education, universities such as Qinghai University (a Double First-Class institution), Qinghai Normal University, and Qinghai Minzu University offer distinctive programs in Tibetan studies, plateau ecology, and ethnic languages. The city offers convenient living, moderate costs, and cool summers (average 17–19°C), earning it the nickname 'Summer Capital.' With good public security and friendly locals, international students can enjoy a slow-paced life and the unique charm of multicultural interaction on the plateau.
