Program overview
Veterinary Medicine, simply put, is the profession of diagnosing and preventing diseases in animals. You might think it's just about being a pet doctor, but it's much more than that. Core courses include animal anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, infectious diseases, parasitology, and clinical diagnostics. You'll learn how to examine, perform surgery, and prescribe medications for cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, cats, dogs, and even wild animals. Chinese universities offer strong practical training in this field—for example, China Agricultural University, Huazhong Agricultural University, and Nanjing Agricultural University have affiliated animal hospitals and internship bases where students can work directly with cases. This major is ideal for those who love animals, are patient, have strong hands-on skills, and don't mind getting dirty or tired. If you're interested in biomedical sciences but prefer not to work directly with humans, veterinary medicine is a great choice.
