Program overview
The Environmental Engineering graduate program, simply put, teaches you to use scientific and engineering methods to make water cleaner, air fresher, and soil healthier. Core courses include Water Treatment Engineering, Air Pollution Control, Solid Waste Resource Recovery, Environmental Monitoring, and Environmental Microbiology. You'll learn how to design wastewater treatment plants, analyze PM2.5 sources, and turn waste into energy. Many Chinese universities excel in this field—for example, Tsinghua University's School of Environment leads globally in membrane water treatment technology, Tongji University is renowned for wastewater treatment and sponge city research, and Harbin Institute of Technology has unique advantages in cold-region water treatment. This major suits students who enjoy chemistry, biology, and physics, love hands-on experiments, and care about the planet's future. If you see smog and think "how to control it," or spot a polluted river and wonder "how to restore it," Environmental Engineering is for you.
