Program overview
Economic Forestry is a subfield of Forestry under the Agriculture discipline. Simply put, it focuses on how to grow, manage, and utilize trees that generate economic benefits, such as walnuts, chestnuts, oil tea, goji berries, and citrus. You'll learn about cultivation, breeding, pest and disease control, as well as practical courses like forest product processing (e.g., oil pressing, dried fruit making), forest management, and soil fertilization. Core courses include 《Economic Forestry Cultivation》, 《Economic Forestry Breeding》, 《Forest Product Processing and Utilization》, and 《Forest Ecology》. This major is ideal for students who enjoy the outdoors, have strong hands-on skills, and are interested in agriculture and nature. Chinese universities offer rich practical resources in this field—many have their own experimental forest farms where you can plant trees, graft, and measure yields firsthand. Additionally, China leads the world in research on woody oil plants like oil tea and walnuts, giving international students access to localized techniques.
