Program overview
Forest protection is a major under the forestry category in agriculture. Simply put, it's about learning how to keep forests healthier and safer. You'll study common forest pests and diseases, how to identify and control them; how to prevent and fight forest fires; and how to maintain the balance of forest ecosystems. Core courses include forest pathology, forest entomology, forest fire prevention, forest ecology, forest resource management, and biological control techniques. This major is especially suitable for students who love nature, are hands-on, and have environmental awareness. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field—for example, Beijing Forestry University, Northeast Forestry University, and Nanjing Forestry University offer field practice bases covering diverse forest types from cold-temperate to tropical zones, where you can conduct surveys, sampling, and experiments firsthand. If you're interested in biology and ecology and don't mind working outdoors, this major is a great fit.
