Program overview
Forest cultivation is a research direction under forestry, simply put, it studies how to plant trees well and nurture forests. You will learn how to select tree seeds, manage nurseries, determine suitable planting locations for different species, and promote healthier forest growth. Core courses include forest tree genetics and breeding, forest ecology, silviculture, forest protection, and soil science. There are many lab sessions and field trips, such as measuring tree heights at forest farms, analyzing soil, and designing afforestation plans. This program suits students who enjoy the outdoors, have strong hands-on skills, and are passionate about nature and environmental protection. Chinese universities have unique advantages in this field, such as research on fast-growing and high-yield forests in the south, afforestation techniques in arid and semi-arid regions in the north, and experimental bases across the country at institutions like Beijing Forestry University and Nanjing Forestry University, offering exposure to real-world forestry issues.
