Program overview
This major may sound a bit 'niche,' but it's actually very down-to-earth—simply put, it teaches you how to prevent soil erosion and turn deserts into oases. Core courses include soil science, hydrology, wind-blown sand physics, ecological engineering, and desertification control techniques. You'll learn how to use plants and engineering measures (like building terraces and sand barriers) to retain soil and water. China has many successful cases in the Loess Plateau restoration and Kubuqi Desert greening, and universities (such as Beijing Forestry University and Northwest A&F University) have rich laboratory and field base resources, allowing you to directly participate in real projects. It's suitable for students who enjoy the outdoors, have strong hands-on skills, and are passionate about the ecological environment—and don't mind fieldwork and a bit of sun.
