Program overview
Veterinary medicine is not just about treating cats and dogs; it covers animal health, disease prevention and control, food safety, and public health. Core courses include animal anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, infectious diseases, clinical diagnostics, and surgical procedures. You will learn how to diagnose and treat animal diseases, as well as how to prevent zoonotic diseases (such as rabies and avian influenza). This major is ideal for students who genuinely love animals, are patient, have strong hands-on skills, and don't mind getting their hands dirty. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field—for example, China Agricultural University, Huazhong Agricultural University, and Nanjing Agricultural University have accumulated extensive practical experience in animal disease control, pet healthcare, and vaccine development. At the graduate level, the focus shifts to research and advanced clinical skills, where you'll be exposed to the latest diagnostic technologies (such as PCR and imaging) and experimental methods.
