Program overview
Animal Nutrition and Feed Science, simply put, is the study of how animals "eat." You'll learn what nutrients animals need (proteins, energy, vitamins, minerals, etc.), how to formulate feed for different growth stages, and how to improve animal health and performance (e.g., faster growth, higher milk yield, better egg quality) through nutritional regulation. Core courses include Animal Nutrition, Feed Science, Feed Additives, Feed Processing Technology, and Animal Physiology and Biochemistry. Lab sessions involve hands-on feed formulation design, feed ingredient analysis, and even field visits to farms. This program is ideal for students who enjoy biology and chemistry and are interested in the livestock industry. If you care about food safety, animal welfare, or want to contribute to global food challenges, there's plenty to explore here. China is a major livestock country, and universities have strong research foundations in feed resource development (e.g., using crop by-products as feed), precision nutrition, and gut microbiota regulation. Many labs collaborate closely with enterprises, giving you exposure to real-world problems.
