Program overview
Tea Science may sound artistic, but it's actually a down-to-earth agricultural major that focuses on how to grow tea plants, process tea leaves, and drink tea healthily. Core courses include Tea Plant Cultivation, Tea Processing, Tea Biochemistry, Tea Evaluation and Inspection, and Tea Culture. You'll observe tea plants growing in the fields, analyze tea components in the lab, and judge tea quality with your senses in the tasting room. As the birthplace of tea, China has many agricultural universities (such as Zhejiang University, Hunan Agricultural University, and Anhui Agricultural University) offering Tea Science programs, complete with their own experimental tea gardens and processing workshops, allowing you to go from picking leaves to making finished tea with your own hands. This major suits students who are interested in plants, food, and culture, and don't mind working outdoors and doing hands-on experiments. If you love drinking tea and want to dive into the science and culture behind it, Tea Science is a great choice.
