Program overview
Agricultural Entomology and Pest Control is essentially about how to deal with insects that harm crops. You will learn about insect classification, life habits, how to monitor their populations, and methods to control them—such as biological control (using natural enemies), chemical control (pesticides), physical control (light traps), and more. Core courses include Entomology, Integrated Pest Management, Pesticide Science, and Plant Quarantine. This major is great for students who enjoy observing nature, doing experiments, and are interested in ecological balance. Chinese universities have a unique advantage in this field: because China is a large agricultural country with diverse pests and diseases, research cases are abundant—like rice stem borers, cotton bollworms, and fall armyworms—so you'll encounter real problems in both the lab and the field. Many schools also have international cooperation projects, such as joint research on cross-border pests with universities in Southeast Asia and Africa.
