Program overview
Plant Science and Technology, simply put, is about studying how to make plants grow better, yield higher, and have superior quality. You'll learn how plants grow, develop, inherit traits, and resist pests and diseases, while also using modern tools like biotechnology and molecular breeding. Core courses include Plant Physiology, Genetics, Crop Cultivation, Plant Breeding, Soil and Fertilizer Science, and Plant Protection. Chinese universities have a clear advantage in this field: many have their own experimental fields and breeding bases—for example, China Agricultural University, Huazhong Agricultural University, and Nanjing Agricultural University—so you can get hands-on experience planting and experimenting, not just reading books. This major suits students who are curious about plants, enjoy hands-on work, and don't mind getting their hands dirty in the field—if you find tinkering with test tubes in the lab and observing crops in the field equally fascinating, you'll have a great time studying it.
