Program overview
Seed Science and Engineering, simply put, is the study of 'seeds'. From how a seed is cultivated, how its quality is tested, and how it is stored, to how to make it grow better and yield more—this major covers it all. Core courses include plant genetics and breeding, seed biology, seed processing and storage, seed testing technology, and seed business management. If you're interested in biology and agriculture, enjoy hands-on lab work, and want to learn something that can truly help farmers and food production, this major is a great fit. China is a major agricultural country, and many agricultural universities have strong programs in seed research—for example, China Agricultural University and Huazhong Agricultural University, both with excellent faculty and experimental bases. Students have the opportunity to get hands-on with the latest breeding technologies, such as gene editing and molecular marker-assisted breeding.
