Program overview
Powder Materials Science and Engineering is essentially the study of various powdered materials—from nanoscale catalysts to millimeter-scale ceramic powders—how they are made, their properties, and how they are used. Core courses include Powder Engineering, Fundamentals of Materials Science, Powder Testing Techniques, and Nanomaterials. You'll learn how to control particle size, shape, and purity, and how to process them into useful products like battery electrodes, ceramic parts, and 3D printing feedstock. This major is ideal for students who enjoy hands-on experiments and are curious about the microscopic world. Chinese universities have unique advantages in this field—for example, Central South University and University of Science and Technology Beijing have deep expertise in cemented carbides and rare earth materials, and many labs collaborate directly with companies, giving you access to industry frontiers.
