Program overview
Forensic Science is a 'hardcore' interdisciplinary field combining law and natural sciences. Simply put, it's about learning how to use science and technology to make evidence 'speak'. Core courses include forensic medicine (e.g., cause of death, injury assessment), physical evidence technology (fingerprints, DNA, toxicology analysis), trace examination (footprints, tool marks), document examination (handwriting, seal authenticity), audio-visual evidence identification (recording and video authenticity), and digital evidence identification (mobile phone and computer forensics). This major is especially suitable for students who are interested in both science and logical reasoning, and who are meticulous and rigorous. Chinese universities have unique strengths in this field. For example, China University of Political Science and Law, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, and East China University of Political Science and Law all have national-level forensic science centers with advanced equipment and rich case libraries, giving students opportunities to participate in real-case simulations. Many schools also collaborate with public security bureaus and courts, offering ample internship opportunities.
