Program overview
Thai Interpretation is a specialized direction under the Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI), aimed at training professionals capable of delivering high-quality interpretation between Chinese and Thai. The program typically lasts 2-3 years and features a rigorous curriculum: besides foundational interpreting skills (consecutive and simultaneous interpretation), students study Thai political and economic terminology, Chinese-Thai cultural comparison, and cross-cultural communication. Many Chinese universities invite officials from Thai embassies or consulates in China, as well as experienced interpreters, to teach, and even arrange short-term exchanges in Thailand. Core courses include "Chinese-Thai Consecutive Interpretation," "Chinese-Thai Simultaneous Interpretation," "Chinese-Thai Business Interpretation," and "Sight Translation Basics." It is ideal for students who are already fluent in Thai (e.g., HSK Level 5 or Thai CUTFL Intermediate or above), have a sensitivity to language, and thrive under pressure. If you enjoy watching Thai news, following Thai dramas, and are interested in China-Thailand relations, you'll find the learning process even more motivating. Chinese universities have an edge in Thai interpretation due to the frequent economic and trade exchanges between the two countries; many schools collaborate with Chulalongkorn University and Thammasat University in Thailand, offering real-world conference interpretation practice opportunities.
