Program overview
This program is a graduate-level Italian-Chinese translation program. Simply put, it teaches you how to produce high-quality written translations between Italian and Chinese. You'll learn translation theory and techniques, and practice extensively with various text types such as business documents, literary works, legal contracts, technical manuals, and more. Core courses include: Translation Theory and Practice, Contrastive Linguistics of Chinese and Italian, Literary Translation, Non-Literary Translation, Translation Technology (e.g., CAT tools), and Cross-Cultural Communication. Some schools also offer specialized courses on Italian culture or economic and trade translation. Who is this program suitable for? First, you need to have a good command of both Italian and Chinese, ideally with some prior foundation (e.g., an undergraduate degree in Italian or a related field). If you enjoy playing with words, have a keen eye for linguistic details, and are interested in Italian culture, this program will be a great fit. A distinctive feature of Chinese universities is that many have partnerships with Italian universities, offering internship opportunities at places like the Italian Embassy in China, cultural institutes, or Sino-Italian joint ventures. Additionally, China's Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) programs generally emphasize practice, with many instructors being experienced translators who can expose you to real-world projects.
