Program overview
Korean-Chinese written translation is a direction under the Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI), mainly focusing on written translation between Chinese and Korean. Simply put, it teaches you how to accurately and fluently translate Chinese materials into Korean, or Korean materials into Chinese. The courses are very practical—for example, 'Basic Translation' will have you practice sentence and paragraph translation, while 'Advanced Translation' challenges you with complex texts like contracts, news, and literary works. There's also 'Translation Theory' to help you understand the logic behind translation, and 'Computer-Assisted Translation' to teach you how to use tools like Trados to improve efficiency. Many Chinese universities (such as Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, and Dalian University of Foreign Languages) have strengths in this field due to the frequent economic and trade exchanges between China and Korea, and schools often provide real translation projects for you to practice. It's suitable for students with a good level of Korean (e.g., TOPIK Level 5 or above), solid Chinese skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to work hard on texts. If you enjoy watching Korean dramas or variety shows but want to delve deeper into the cultural differences behind the language, this major will be a great fit.
