Program overview
Pashto is one of the official languages of Afghanistan and an important language in northwestern Pakistan. This program focuses on listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation. Core courses include Basic Pashto, Advanced Pashto, Pashto Grammar, Pashto Audiovisual & Speaking, Pashto Reading & Writing, and Translation Theory & Practice. Very few universities in China offer this program—Beijing Foreign Studies University is one, with strong faculty and opportunities for exchange in target countries. It's ideal for students who are sensitive to languages, enjoy niche languages, and are interested in Central and South Asian cultures. Through this program, you'll explore Pashtun poetry, history, and social customs. The language itself is distinctive, with pronunciation and grammar quite different from English and Chinese, making it a rewarding challenge.
