Program overview
The Vietnamese language program, simply put, teaches you to speak, read, write, and translate Vietnamese while also introducing you to Vietnam's culture, history, and society. Core courses include Basic Vietnamese, Vietnamese Conversation, Listening, Reading, Writing, as well as Translation Techniques, Vietnamese Literature, and Vietnamese National Conditions. Chinese universities offer distinctive Vietnamese language teaching, especially schools in Guangxi and Yunnan, which benefit from their proximity to Vietnam and provide natural language environments, often organizing student exchanges and internships in Vietnam. Beijing Foreign Studies University and Shanghai International Studies University also have strong faculty. This major suits students who are sensitive to languages, enjoy Southeast Asian culture, or want to work in international trade. You don't need to know Vietnamese beforehand, but patience is essential, as the pronunciation and grammar differ from Chinese.
