Program overview
This program focuses on the French language itself (phonetics, grammar, vocabulary) as well as the literature, culture, and society of French-speaking countries. Core courses include Advanced French, History of French Literature, Translation Theory and Practice, French Cultural Studies, French Linguistics, and more. If you have a passion for French, enjoy reading French novels and poetry, or are interested in French history, art, and philosophy, this program will suit you well. French programs at Chinese universities have a long history—for example, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University, and Nanjing University all boast strong faculty and extensive international exchange programs. Many schools have dual-degree or exchange programs with French universities, allowing you to study in a French-speaking country for a semester or a year.
