Program overview
The Art Education major, simply put, teaches you how to use art as a means of education. Unlike pure fine arts or music majors that focus solely on technique, or general education majors that emphasize theory, it combines both—you'll learn painting, piano, dance, or theater performance, as well as child psychology, curriculum design, and teaching methods. Core courses include Introduction to Art, Chinese and Foreign Art/Music History, Principles of Education, Art Teaching Methods, Art Therapy, and more. Many Chinese universities have their own specialties in this field: for example, Beijing Normal University emphasizes "Art + Psychology," the Central Academy of Fine Arts focuses on "Visual Arts Education," and Nanjing University of the Arts integrates intangible cultural heritage. This major is suitable for students who have artistic talents (or a passion for art), enjoy interacting with people, and aspire to become teachers or work in art promotion. If you are outgoing, creative, and don't mind performing on stage or organizing activities, this major will be a great fit.
