Program overview
In simple terms, the Sculpture program teaches you how to create three-dimensional artworks using various materials (clay, stone, wood, metal, even digital software). You'll spend a lot of time in the studio working with your hands, starting by copying plaster casts and gradually learning to create your own pieces. Core courses include drawing, clay modeling, materials and techniques, spatial composition, and digital sculpture (e.g., using ZBrush). Chinese universities have two distinctive features in sculpture education: first, solid training in traditional techniques—for example, the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the China Academy of Art both offer rigorous realist training; second, the rapid development of digital sculpture and public art in recent years, with many schools introducing 3D scanning and printing equipment. This major suits those who enjoy hands-on work, have patience, and are sensitive to space and form—if you loved playing with clay or building blocks as a child, this might be perfect for you.
