Program overview
Fine Arts may sound very "artistic," but it's actually quite practical. Simply put, it's about learning how to draw, how to appreciate art, and how to understand the culture behind art. Core courses include sketching, color theory, Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, art history, and art theory. Chinese universities have unique advantages in fine arts—for example, the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the China Academy of Art place special emphasis on traditional ink painting, calligraphy, and folk art, which are hard to study systematically in other countries. Who is this major suitable for? If you enjoy hands-on creation, are sensitive to the visual world, are willing to spend time honing your skills, or are interested in art history and cultural studies, this major will be a great fit. Courses aren't all in the studio—you'll also visit museums, go on sketching trips, and even participate in public art projects.
