Program overview
Calligraphy is more than just practicing writing—it's a comprehensive field that explores the art, history, and culture of Chinese characters. You'll learn the techniques of five script styles: seal, clerical, regular, running, and cursive. You'll also study calligraphy history, ancient theories, stele and rubbing identification, and seal carving. Core courses include: copying and creating the five scripts, calligraphy aesthetics, fundamentals of Chinese painting, philology, and mounting and restoration. This program is ideal for those passionate about Chinese character culture, artistic creation, and traditional heritage—especially those who enjoy quiet, focused study and have patience. China is the birthplace of calligraphy, offering unparalleled academic resources—such as the China Academy of Art, Central Academy of Fine Arts, and Beijing Normal University—with strong faculty and extensive collections of stele and rubbings. Here, you can learn from top calligraphers and access genuine masterpieces and original rubbings, an experience hard to find abroad.
