Program overview
Chemical Engineering is a graduate major under the Engineering category, specifically within Materials and Chemical Engineering. Simply put, it teaches you how to scale up chemical reactions from the lab to the factory, producing everyday items like plastics, medicines, cosmetics, and fuels safely, efficiently, and economically. Core courses include Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, Transport Phenomena, Reaction Engineering, Separation Engineering, and Chemical Process Design. You'll also learn to simulate processes and optimize them using computers. This major suits students who enjoy hands-on experiments, are comfortable with math and physics, and want to solve real-world problems. Chinese universities have a strong tradition of engineering practice in chemical engineering—for example, Tianjin University, East China University of Science and Technology, and Tsinghua University—with advanced lab equipment and close industry partnerships, giving you exposure to real production cases.
