Program overview
The graduate program in Theater and Film Studies, simply put, teaches you how to tell stories through images and stage. You'll learn the full workflow from scriptwriting, directing concepts, cinematography and lighting, to post-production editing. Core courses include scriptwriting, directing fundamentals, film and TV cinematography, editing art, performance theory, Chinese and foreign theater history, and also cover film criticism and cross-cultural communication. This major is especially suited for those who have stories in their minds, love observing life, and are willing to work late into the night with a team to polish their works. Chinese universities have unique advantages in this field, such as Beijing Film Academy, Central Academy of Drama, and Shanghai Theatre Academy. They are closely connected with the industry — many teachers are active directors or screenwriters themselves, and you may even have the chance to participate in their projects. Additionally, China has abundant film and TV bases and a vibrant theater market, offering plenty of internship opportunities that let you get real hands-on experience.
