Program overview
Health toxicology might sound a bit intimidating, but it's actually very down-to-earth—it's all about studying whether various chemicals (like pesticides, food additives, drugs, and industrial pollutants) can harm the human body, and how that harm happens. Core courses include Fundamentals of Toxicology, Molecular Toxicology, Target Organ Toxicology, Risk Assessment and Management, and Experimental Animal Models. You'll learn how to design experiments, analyze data, and determine whether a substance is safe. This major is perfect for students who are interested in chemistry and biology, enjoy hands-on lab work, and want their research to truly protect public health. Chinese universities have many unique features in this field—for example, many schools collaborate with the National Medical Products Administration and the CDC, giving students opportunities to participate in real-world new drug safety evaluations or environmental pollutant testing projects. Additionally, China is very active in research on the toxicology of traditional Chinese medicine and nanomaterials, so international students can engage with cutting-edge topics.
