Program overview
Geomatics Science and Technology is essentially the study of how to precisely measure the Earth's surface and spatial positions. You'll learn to collect data using satellites (like BeiDou and GPS), drones, LiDAR, cameras, and other devices, then process it via computer into maps, 3D models, or navigation information. Core courses include Geodesy (understanding Earth's shape and gravity field), Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (extracting information from photos and satellite images), Geographic Information Systems (GIS, turning spatial data into analyzable digital maps), and Navigation and Positioning Technology (the tech behind your phone's GPS). If you enjoy math and physics, and have an interest in programming and geography, this major is a great fit. Chinese universities excel in this field—for example, Wuhan University's School of Geodesy and Geomatics is world-leading, and Tongji University and Central South University are also renowned. Plus, with China's BeiDou satellite system, you'll have access to cutting-edge practical opportunities.
