Program overview
Otorhinolaryngology is a very "down-to-earth" specialty in clinical medicine, mainly studying diseases of the ears, nose, throat, and head and neck. You might think it's niche, but in fact, everyone encounters related issues at some point in their lives—otitis media, rhinitis, tonsillitis, snoring, hearing loss... all fall under its scope. Core courses include Otology (hearing disorders, vertigo, facial nerve diseases), Rhinology (sinusitis, allergies, olfactory issues), Laryngology (voice, swallowing, sleep apnea), and Head and Neck Surgery (thyroid, neck masses, tumors). Additionally, you'll learn skills like endoscopic surgery, microsurgery, and cochlear implantation. This specialty suits students who are hands-on, detail-oriented, patient, and enjoy direct communication with patients. If you're interested in anatomy or want to be a doctor who can both perform surgeries and see outpatients, ENT is a great choice. Chinese universities have strong clinical resources in this field, such as Beijing Tongren Hospital, Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University, and the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, which handle a large number of cases annually, offering international students ample hands-on training opportunities.
