Program overview
In simple terms, this program teaches you how to diagnose and treat various mental and psychological issues, such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and sleep disorders. Core courses include fundamentals of psychiatry, clinical psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and child and adolescent mental health. Beyond classroom theory, you'll gain hands-on experience through rotations in hospital psychiatric departments, working directly with patients. Who is it for? First, you need a strong curiosity about the brain and psychological mechanisms, and be comfortable interacting with people who may be emotionally distressed or confused. Second, patience and empathy are essential, as psychiatric treatment often requires long-term follow-up. Many top medical schools in China have strong psychiatry programs, such as Peking University Sixth Hospital, Shanghai Mental Health Center, and Xiangya Second Hospital. These institutions offer rich clinical cases and research resources, and international students can learn about mental illness characteristics across Eastern and Western cultures.
