Program overview
Anesthesiology is not just about 'giving a shot to make someone sleep'—it involves full life support before, during, and after surgery. You'll learn how to assess patient conditions, choose anesthesia plans, manage breathing and circulation, handle intraoperative emergencies, and provide postoperative pain relief and intensive care. Core courses include Anesthesia Pharmacology, Anesthesia Physiology, Clinical Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, and Pain Diagnosis and Treatment. Many medical schools in China (such as West China, Peking Union Medical College, and Fudan) offer rich clinical resources in anesthesiology, with plenty of hands-on opportunities during graduate studies—from endotracheal intubation to central venous catheterization, all practiced in real operating rooms. This major suits students who are meticulous, calm, and enjoy challenges—because you need to make quick decisions under pressure. If you're interested in physiology and pharmacology and enjoy teamwork, anesthesiology could be a great fit.
