Program overview
Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, simply put, teaches you how to use cameras (on satellites, drones, and aircraft) to take pictures of the Earth, and then extract information like terrain, buildings, and vegetation from those images. Core courses include Photogrammetry (learning how to reconstruct 3D models from 2D photos), Remote Sensing Principles (understanding the "fingerprints" of different objects in the electromagnetic spectrum), Digital Image Processing (sharpening blurry images and classifying them), LiDAR Data Processing, and GIS for spatial analysis. This program is perfect for students who enjoy geography, computer science, and physics — especially those interested in "reading pictures" and data mining. Chinese universities have unique strengths here: for example, Wuhan University boasts Asia's top remote sensing lab, while Beijing Normal University and Tongji University excel in drone surveying and urban remote sensing. Many schools let you work with real project data, such as domestic high-resolution satellite imagery, DJI drone data, and even participate in national mega-projects (e.g., western China mapping, disaster emergency response).
