Program overview
Neurology is the branch of clinical medicine that deals with disorders of the nervous system, covering the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles. Simply put, it's all about the "brain, nerves, and muscles." Core courses include neuroanatomy, neuropathology, neuroimaging, and clinical neurology (e.g., cerebrovascular disease, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, dementia, headache, neuromuscular disorders). You'll also learn how to perform neurological examinations, interpret EEGs, EMGs, and CT/MRI scans. This specialty suits students who enjoy logical reasoning, are curious about how the brain works, have patience, and are good communicators—because many neurological conditions require long-term management. Chinese universities have unique strengths in neurology: for example, affiliated hospitals of Peking Union Medical College, Fudan University, Capital Medical University, and Sun Yat-sen University have vast case resources, especially in cerebrovascular disease (high prevalence in China), epilepsy, and neurodegenerative diseases. Some hospitals also have international wards, giving international students exposure to multilingual patients.
