Program overview
What does acupuncture study? Simply put, it's learning how to use silver needles and moxibustion to stimulate acupoints on the human body to treat, prevent, and regulate health. You'll first build a solid foundation in TCM: core theories like yin-yang, five elements, zang-fu organs, meridians, qi, blood, and body fluids. Then you'll delve into meridian and acupoint studies—memorizing the locations, functions, and indications of hundreds of acupoints. Next comes needling and moxibustion techniques, practicing insertion methods, moxibustion skills, and auxiliary therapies like cupping and scraping. Clinical courses include acupuncture therapeutics, developing treatment plans for common conditions such as pain, neurological disorders, digestive issues, and gynecological diseases. Chinese universities place special emphasis on 'classics + clinical practice'—for example, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine arrange extensive hospital internships, allowing you to operate under teacher guidance. If you're interested in traditional culture and enjoy hands-on practice, this major suits you—it requires both memorization and understanding, as well as delicate hand skills and patience.
