Program overview
Tibetan medicine is not just simple "herbalism"; it is a complete life science rooted in the unique environment and culture of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. You will learn how the "Three Humors Theory" (rLung, mKhris-pa, Bad-kan) explains the body's balance, and how diagnosis is made through observation, inquiry, and pulse-taking (especially urine diagnosis). Core courses include interpretation of the *Four Tantras*, Tibetan herbal processing, Tibetan bloodletting therapy, moxibustion and hot compress techniques, as well as Tibetan internal medicine, surgery, and gynecology. Universities in China, such as Tibetan Traditional Medical College and the Tibetan Medicine College of Qinghai University, take students to the plateau for field herb collection, identifying wild states of snow lotus, rhodiola, cordyceps, and other medicinal materials. This major suits students who are curious about traditional culture and natural therapies, willing to calmly recite classics (such as the *Four Tantras* with its thangka illustrations), and able to adapt to high-altitude environments (some practical courses are conducted above 3,000 meters).
